Long Thanh Airport’s Key Arteries: An Update on the T1 & T2 Access Roads
Project Overview and Significance
The T1 and T2 access roads are critical components of the Long Thanh International Airport project, designed to ensure seamless connectivity with major transportation networks. These roads play a pivotal role in linking the airport to key routes such as National Highway 51, the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, and the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway. The project’s total investment exceeds **VND 2,630 billion**.
Technical Specifications and Features
The T1 and T2 roads are engineered to high standards to accommodate the anticipated traffic volume and facilitate efficient movement.
- Road T1: Approximately 4.3 km in length, it extends from the western side of Long Thanh Airport to National Highway 51. This road is designed with 6 lanes, a designed speed of 80 km/h, and is classified as a main urban road. It will serve as the primary route for transporting construction machinery and equipment for the airport’s development.
- Road T2: This road is approximately 3.5 km long, connecting the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway to the interchange with Road T1. It features 4 lanes and runs parallel to the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway.
The project includes three major interchanges: one connecting T1 and T2, another connecting T2 with the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, and a third connecting T1 with National Highway 51.
Construction Timeline and Progress
Construction for the T1 and T2 roads commenced in **July 2023**. The project was originally slated for completion in 885 days, with an estimated handover by the end of **2025**.
Significant progress has been made, with many key components now nearing completion. As of late 2025 and early 2026, the technical completion and inauguration of these roads are anticipated. Specifically, Road T1 was targeted for completion in **2025**, and Road T2 by the **first quarter of 2026**, ensuring alignment with the first phase of the airport’s operation. Some reports indicate a technical inauguration of both T1 and T2 occurred on **December 19, 2025**. The entire project is expected to be fully operational in **2026**, synchronized with the commencement of commercial operations at Long Thanh Airport.
Contractors and Ongoing Works
Multiple contractors are involved in the T1 and T2 road construction. Reports from **May 2025** indicated that a joint venture of contractors had mobilized over 800 personnel and 196 pieces of machinery to the site, working on various segments including earthworks, foundation piling, and bridge construction. As of late 2025, ongoing works include the installation of lighting poles, planting of trees, and landscaping along the roadsides to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality.
